The future can be anticipated with joy.

Not being scared of what tomorrow or next year might bring is one of the best things we’ve gained since putting our lives in God’s hands. We used to live always waiting for something bad to happen. That probably wouldn’t have changed if our pain hadn’t gotten so bad.

Some of us even say we’re thankful for the pain because without it, we wouldn’t have found this journey or the peace we have now. For those of us still living with active alcoholics or addicts, we could never have imagined the happiness we feel today. We used to think they needed to quit, but now we realize it’s us who need to quit—quit focusing on them.

By doing that, we’re finally giving our own lives the attention they deserve. We’re discovering talents we never knew we had, and gaining the confidence to go after dreams we never thought possible. The fear of the future might come back, but we can control it. With the tools we have now and trusting God to guide us, we can be free of fear for good.

…

Today’s Affirmation:

I have nothing to fear today or any day as long as I let God take charge of me and all the circumstances in my life.

A Life Of My Own

Since 1954, A Life of My Own has been a key resource for alcoholics in recovery worldwide, with over nine million copies in print. This revised “little book” offers daily reflections, meditations, and prayers to support a clean and sober life, with practical spiritual guidance for everyday living.

Karen Casey, also the author of Each Day a New Beginning for women, she has spent over 20 years speaking on spirituality, relationships, and personal growth. Her own recovery from addiction started in Twelve Step groups more than 30 years ago, and she’s passionate about helping others in those same groups.
