Loving our inner child is the first step to health and wholeness.
At first, it might be tricky to understand how to take care of our “inner child.” Luckily, we can learn from others in the program that nurturing our inner child means giving it attention, comfort, and support.
Our adult selves can learn to reach out to this part of us and walk through tough times together. We can protect that inner child from the harshness of the world. Picture yourself holding that small child—doing so helps create real love for ourselves, something we might have been missing. This connection fills a void that’s been there for a long time.
Once we bond with our inner child, it becomes easier to connect with the people we care about. The sadness we all share as humans comes from not having enough love—for ourselves and others. Through this program, we’re learning how to spread love.

Today’s Affirmation:
I will meditate on my inner child’s needs today. I will be loving and attentive toward not only my inner child but also other people.

Karen Casey, also the author of Each Day a New Beginning for women, she has spent over 20 years speaking on spirituality, relationships, and personal growth. Her own recovery from addiction started in Twelve Step groups more than 30 years ago, and she’s passionate about helping others in those same groups.
