We are coming to believe in unconditional love.

Being loved without conditions might feel new for a lot of us. Most of us grew up thinking we had to get good grades or be super well-behaved to earn love. And there were always strings attached.

Some of us might have also been taught to believe in a judgmental God, which can make it hard to trust the idea of unconditional love. (“Wait, so you’re saying no matter what I do, I’ll still be loved and forgiven by my Higher Power?”) Because of how we were raised, we might also set conditions for the people we love.

For example, we might think we won’t love someone if they let us down in any way. Luckily, we have the example of so many others who’ve walked this path before us. If they can change, we can too. We just need to be patient with ourselves. We’ve had this mindset for a long time, so it’s not going to change overnight. But it can change, if we really want it to.

…

Today’s Affirmation:

I will affirm that I am loved unconditionally many times throughout the day. Time will heal me and change my understanding.

A Life Of My Own
