Be careful with amends

Hurting someone just to ease your own guilt is not the right way to make amends. The purpose of amends is to repair the damage you’ve caused in your relationships. However, if making amends could hurt someone, you need to think carefully about whether it’s the right time to bring it up. Sometimes, it’s better not to say anything, but you should never ignore the truth or avoid facing it with yourself or with God. One important part of making amends is changing your behavior, especially with family members who may have heard “I’m sorry” too many times.

Repaying money, fixing damages, or making donations on behalf of the person you’ve wronged are all honest ways to make things right. The main goal in making amends is to take responsibility for your actions and show genuine regret. When you back this up with positive changes in your behavior, your relationships will improve right away.

Today’s Affirmation:

I Will not shy away from any amends I need to make today, but I’ll be careful not to hurt someone with information he or she doesn’t need to know.
