If we listen closely, we’ll hear wisdom from the most unexpected sources.
We usually expect wisdom to come from great books or respected scholars, so we pay close attention when we read or listen to them. But wisdom can come from the most unexpected places—sometimes, even from the newest person in the room at a meeting.
What we’re really learning is that the answers we need are always within reach if we’re open to them. Whether it’s in the program books we read, the advice from a sponsor, or the words of a speaker at a meeting, there’s wisdom all around us. All we have to do is listen—and when we do, we’ll find exactly what we’re looking for.

Today’s Affirmation:
I will be alert to everyone’s utterances today. I can’t assume I know who will offer the wisdom I seek.

Since 1954, A Life of My Own has been a key resource for alcoholics in recovery worldwide, with over nine million copies in print. This revised “little book” offers daily reflections, meditations, and prayers to support a clean and sober life, with practical spiritual guidance for everyday living.
Karen Casey is also the author of Each Day a New Beginning. She has spent over 20 years speaking on spirituality, relationships, and personal growth. Her recovery from addiction started in Twelve-Step groups more than 30 years ago, and she’s passionate about helping others in those same groups.
This summary is not a substitute for the original book; all quotes are paraphrased and credited to the author and publisher. Thank you.
