We have support from friends, the principles of this program, and a Higher Power.
Living with an alcoholic partner or trying to parent a child struggling with addiction—without support—nearly broke many of us. Looking back, how we finally found help might still feel like a mystery. But the truth is, it wasn’t just luck.
It happened because we were willing to let go of isolation, shame, and the idea that we had to handle it all on our own. Now, the support we lean on—from others and from a higher power—is always there when we need it. No one has to carry their struggles alone, no matter how big or small. And when we turn around and support others going through the same pain, we keep that cycle of help and healing alive.
Today’s Affirmation:
I am in a circle of support. What I give to others will return to me. No problem will be too heavy for any of us today.
Since 1954, A Life of My Own has been a key resource for alcoholics in recovery worldwide, with over nine million copies in print. This revised “little book” offers daily reflections, meditations, and prayers to support a clean and sober life, with practical spiritual guidance for everyday living.
Karen Casey is also the author of Each Day a New Beginning. She has spent over 20 years speaking on spirituality, relationships, and personal growth. Her recovery from addiction started in Twelve-Step groups more than 30 years ago, and she’s passionate about helping others in those same groups.
