*April 12*

The present moment is all we are certain of.

We spend so much time regretting the past—wishing we had handled things differently, wondering why we gave in, or imagining how much better things could’ve gone if we just had a do-over. But the truth is, the past is done. We did the best we could with what we knew back then.

Then there’s the future—another trap.

We get caught up in what ifs: What if he doesn’t come home? Should I apologize if she seems upset? What if my boss gives me something I don’t know how to do?

All that worrying eats up our time and energy—time we could be using to actually get things done today. If we’re honest, most of the stuff we stress about never even happens. What is real is right now—this moment. That’s the only place we have any real control. And the good news? We’re not facing it alone. We’ve got a Higher Power to lean on for whatever comes our way today.

Today’s Affirmation:

I will live today moment by moment. I will be prepared for the future when it comes.

A Life of My Own

A Life Of My Own

Since 1954, A Life of My Own has been a key resource for alcoholics in recovery worldwide, with over nine million copies in print. This revised “little book” offers daily reflections, meditations, and prayers to support a clean and sober life, with practical spiritual guidance for everyday living.

Karen Casey is also the author of Each Day a New Beginning. She has spent over 20 years speaking on spirituality, relationships, and personal growth. Her recovery from addiction started in Twelve-Step groups more than 30 years ago, and she’s passionate about helping others in those same groups.

This summary is not a substitute for the original book; all quotes are paraphrased and credited to the author and publisher. Thank you.
