*April 20*

Compassion doesn’t mean taking care of people.

Caring about a friend who’s hurting is one of the kindest things we can do.

A little compassion goes a long way—it doesn’t just comfort them, but also softens things for us too. However, the hardest lesson we can learn is that it’s not our job to fix their pain.

As much as we want to take it away, that’s not how growth works.

We’re all on our own paths, with our own lessons to learn—even the tough ones. And sometimes, the most loving thing isn’t swooping in with solutions. It’s sitting with them, listening, being there.

There’s a fine line between helping and taking over, and many of us have crossed it a few times. But over time, we learn: support doesn’t mean saving. It means showing up without needing to fix the ending.

Today’s Affirmation:

I will show compassion today by maintaining healthy boundaries and not intruding on other people’s lives.

A Life of My Own

Today’s thought of the day is inspired by A Life of My Own, a “little book” that offers daily reflections, meditations, and prayers to support a clean and sober life, with practical spiritual guidance for everyday living.

Karen Casey is also the author of Each Day a New Beginning. She has spent over 20 years speaking on spirituality, relationships, and personal growth. Her recovery from addiction started in Twelve-Step groups more than 30 years ago, and she’s passionate about helping others in those same groups.

This summary is not a substitute for the original book; all quotes are paraphrased and credited to the author and publisher. Thank you.
