What comes to us is balanced by what we give.
Some days it feels like we’re just pouring everything we’ve got into other people, like our time, our energy, our money—especially when it comes to cleaning up after someone else’s mess.
And what do we get in return?
No thanks, no support. Just more drama.
Even with friends, we’re always the one listening, helping, showing up—while they barely check in on us.
If that sounds familiar, it might be time to pause and ask: Why are we so involved in their lives?
What are we really giving?
And what are we hoping to get back?
There’s a saying that what we put out into the world is what we get back. And so If we’re putting out frustration, control, or resentment—even if we don’t mean to—it comes back around.
People can sense what’s really in our hearts.
But when we choose to lead with love—real, unconditional love—it changes things.
And sometimes, loving someone means stepping back and letting them figure things out on their own, even if it’s hard to watch.
That’s how we all grow.
…
Today’s Affirmation:
I honor others by letting them grow through their own experiences. I won’t take on what isn’t mine to carry. God, help me stay clear and give from the heart—not out of habit.

Today’s thought of the day is inspired by A Life of My Own, a “little book” that offers daily reflections, meditations, and prayers to support a clean and sober life, with practical spiritual guidance for everyday living.
Karen Casey is also the author of Each Day a New Beginning. She has spent over 20 years speaking on spirituality, relationships, and personal growth. Her recovery from addiction started in Twelve-Step groups more than 30 years ago, and she’s passionate about helping others in those same groups.
This summary is not a substitute for the original book; all quotes are paraphrased and credited to the author and publisher. Thank you.
