Alcoholics suffer from “self-will run riot.” We do too!
Back in the day, a lot of us were pretty sure we always knew best. We thought our way was the way. And honestly, we got used to jumping in and fixing things when our partner or family members messed up, which only made us feel even more certain that we were right.
And sure, sometimes we are right. Everyone is now and then. But one of the biggest things we’re learning is how to let go of needing to be right all the time. Even when we know we’re right, stepping back can actually be way more powerful.
Why? Because not needing to win or prove a point gives us freedom. It takes the pressure off, eases the tension with the people around us, and frees us from constantly trying to control how everything turns out. Life gets a lot smoother when we focus on staying in our own lane and being “right” only about our own path.

Today’s Affirmation:
Today I will only decide what’s right for me.

Karen Casey is also the author of Each Day a New Beginning. She has spent over 20 years speaking on spirituality, relationships, and personal growth. Her recovery from addiction started in Twelve-Step groups more than 30 years ago, and she’s passionate about helping others in those same groups.
