Stop and think.

A good habit to develop is deciding to stop and think before reacting to an accusation or contrary opinion, or before taking in any situation. Taking a few seconds to deliberately pause and quiet ourselves before speaking will keep us from complicating our relations with others.

The need to be right is human nature. But just because everyone struggles with this issue doesn’t mean we should excuse it in ourselves. Pausing to ask ourselves, “Is this really worth arguing over?” will help most of us make the decision to back off, to let go, to choose peacefulness instead. Once we begin doing this regularly, we’ll sense the power it gives us, power to decide who we will be every moment. Our confidence and self-worth will reflect this healthy empowerment. We’ll never want to go back to our old ways.

Today’s Food for Thought:

I will begin the day with a quiet mind. I will go within before responding to others today.

A Life Of My Own

A spiritual resource with practical applications to fit our daily lives.
