Pouting and yelling over not getting our way are very common responses among family members of addicts. Seldom do the drinkers do what we want! Regardless of our reactions to them, they still do whatever they please.
The time is right for us to focus on our own lives.
If If we were to take an honest inventory at this point in our development, we would find that not everything about us is good. And that’s normal. But not everything about us is bad, either. We aren’t always pouting and yelling. Often we are giving solace to others or laughing with friends. Generally, we follow through on tasks begun, and we are willing to change course as needed. Whoever we are at this moment is acceptable to our Higher Power. Who we become tomorrow is up to us. We won’t have to feel ashamed of our behavior if we take the time to choose how we really want to act. If we slip, we can always do it differently next time.
It’s enough to focus only on my behavior today. An asset can be substituted for a defect before it’s too late, and then no amends will be necessary.
