Guidance doesn’t always come in the way we expect.

Needing guidance is human, but many of us used to struggle against admitting that we didn’t know how to proceed. Our dilemma was this: Asking other people for help made us feel inadequate. But when we didn’t ask for help, our problems persisted. Now we are learning that there are many safe ways to receive help. One of the easiest and least threatening is simply quieting our minds so that our Higher Power can be heard. Sometimes, however, we may hear our own egos instead, so we must be wary. Asking close friends for suggestions is another way our Higher Power can reach us. And again, we have to be certain we are open to their words, not to the words of our egos.

A third way our Higher Power can reach us is through messages. We have heard from those wiser than we are that God’s messages are everywhere. Perhaps we will find a message in the passages of a respected book. The point is that asking for help makes us ready to receive it. When our requests are sincere and our hearts humble, we’ll gather the guidance we are ready for.

Today’s Food for Thought:

I will be open to the help I seek today.
