Living on the edge has lost its appeal.

At first, keeping life simple and calm might feel boring, especially if you’re used to living in an extreme binary that either everything was amazing, or it felt like the world was falling apart.

Chaos may have felt normal because our perspective shaped how we saw things, often in a distorted way. Now, in recovery, this new way of living might seem unfamiliar, but over time, choosing peace and taking a step back before reacting will start to feel natural.

The good news? We don’t have to figure it out alone. The Twelve Steps and the slogans give us a solid guide to help us create the change we want.

Today’s Affirmation:

I didn’t know what serenity was before coming to a Twelve Step program. But it’s mine today and every day if I want it.

A Life of My Own

A Life Of My Own

Since 1954, A Life of My Own has been a key resource for alcoholics in recovery worldwide, with over nine million copies in print. This revised “little book” offers daily reflections, meditations, and prayers to support a clean and sober life, with practical spiritual guidance for everyday living.

Karen Casey is also the author of Each Day a New Beginning. She has spent over 20 years speaking on spirituality, relationships, and personal growth. Her recovery from addiction started in Twelve-Step groups more than 30 years ago, and she’s passionate about helping others in those same groups.

This summary is not a substitute for the original book; all quotes are paraphrased and credited to the author and publisher. Thank you.
