Making a decision to let God give us guidance eases our burdens.
When we first hear about Step Three, it can feel scary. “Wait… so I’m not in control anymore? I can’t just do whatever I want?” But as we listen to others who have been through it, we start to understand that trusting a Higher Power—whatever that means to us—doesn’t take away our freedom. It gives us peace.
It means we’re not alone, and we don’t have to figure everything out by ourselves anymore. At first, letting go feels strange. But once we experience the relief of not carrying everything on our shoulders, we won’t want to go back to the constant stress of trying to control everything.
Think about all the times we’ve overthought decisions, worried about how our choices might affect others, and lost sleep over things we couldn’t change. Now, we don’t have to live that way. When we trust in this guidance, we stop stressing over every little thing. Instead, we free up time and energy to focus on what really matters—our goals, our happiness, and the life we want to build.
Today’s Affirmation:
I feel as if I’ve been given a new lease on life. What a good landlord my Higher Power is.

Karen Casey is also the author of Each Day a New Beginning. She has spent over 20 years speaking on spirituality, relationships, and personal growth. Her recovery from addiction started in Twelve-Step groups more than 30 years ago, and she’s passionate about helping others in those same groups.
