Having expectations is not necessarily bad. We might be inspired to tackle worthy goals because of our expectations. But having too many expectations of others can lead to frustration, for them and for us.
When we dwell too much on our expectations, we aren’t present to the reality of the moment. Our expectation, therefore, can cheat us of the journey God has designed for us. And by creating expectations of others, we deny that they have a right to their own perception of reality. When we expect them to do it our way, we are discounting them and their journeys. That’s not on the agenda God has designed for us.
Today’s Food for thought:
Are my expectations, for me or someone else, in my way today?
