Emotions: The Body’s Reaction to the Mind by Eckhart Tolle

Emotion is the body’s reaction to the mind. Explains the German author, and spiritual guru, Eckhart Tolle. If you’re more civilized, you might even say, It is a reflection of the mind in the body.

Tolle explains: Love, joy, and peace are the three main aspects of our deep states.

They are the foundation of the inner connectedness with Being, which arises from beyond the mind.

Happiness, says Tolle, is our natural state.

It is the state of minor children to whom the kingdom belongs  (to quote Jesus)— until some are polluted, or contaminated by foolishness of our cultures and society. Then things tend to tilts towards chaos.

Indian philosopher and writer Jiddu Krishnamurti put it brilliantly when he said, “It is no measure of health to be well-adjusted to a profoundly sick society.”

But as you may observed, strong emotions such as anger, hatred, or fear can even cause changes in the body’s biochemistry.

“Our emotions are great teachers” explains American author, Brené Brown, “and hold so many powerful messages and insights. But, unfortunately, it’s only when we can step back and observe them, rather than getting lost in them, that we can benefit from the natural juiciness that’s held in that space.”

Guru Tolle reminds us, “Whatever the present moment contains, accept it as if you had chosen it.”

Whether you’re happy or sad —It’s simply a reflection of the mind in the body.

To put it in a more straightforward way, Mr. Tolle would say, Emotion arises where mind and body meet. That’s why to always work with it rather than against it.

Depends on the lens you choose to view the world, all these emotions are valid and are available in the here and now.

And as Russian writer, Leo Tolstoy framed it, “That which we understand as the happiness or unhappiness of our animal ‘self’ depends on our highest spiritual will.”

Realize deeply that the present moment is all you ever have.

Eckhart Tolle is a spiritual teacher and author. Born in Germany and educated at the Universities of London and Cambridge.

Eckhart Tolle is the #1 New York Times bestseller The Power of Now and the highly acclaimed follow-up — A New Earth.
