Resentments indicate our attitude needs adjusting.

Resentments creep up on us. Where they come from isn’t always evident. Some days it seems easier to feel resentful than to feel anything else. What is the payoff? There must be one, or we wouldn’t harbor resentments with such relish.

Doing a Fourth Step inventory will give us insight into our resentments. Not being able to control other people is an obvious trigger. Situations that begin to unfold according to someone else’s plan rather than our own initiate resentment too. What it boils down to is, we get resentful when we don’t get our way, which happens quite often.

Doing a Fifth Step next will help us appreciate how human it is to want to control. Yet what folly! We aren’t in charge, God is. Working on acceptance every time we feel resentful will change the very flavor of our lives. In time our payoff will come from our happy attitude.

Today’s Food for Thought:

If I’m resentful today, I will remember God’s role in my life and let the old anger go.
